FAQ
1. How can you tell the quality of fabric?
High-quality fabrics have a smooth, even weave, vibrant natural colors, and a soft yet strong texture. Handwoven fabrics may have minor irregularities — these are signs of authenticity, not flaws. At IKKAT FOR YOU, every fabric is carefully hand-checked for purity, durability, and finish.
2. What types of fabrics do you offer?
We offer a diverse range of handwoven and hand-printed fabrics including:
- Pochampally Ikat Cotton & Silk
- Kalamkari Cotton & Silk
- Bagru & Ajrakh Block Prints
- Chanderi, Linen, Tussar, and Silk Cotton Blends Each fabric tells a unique story of Indian craftsmanship and regional artistry.
3. Are your fabrics handwoven or machine-made?
Most of our fabrics are 100% handwoven using traditional looms. Some may be hand-printed or hand-dyed on powerloom bases to preserve certain patterns. Each product description specifies its weaving method clearly.
4. What is the difference between handwoven and powerloom fabric?
- Handwoven fabric is made manually by artisans on traditional looms — it carries small variations that make every piece unique.
- Powerloom fabric is woven using machines for uniformity.
Handwoven fabrics are softer, more breathable, and have a distinct handmade charm.
5. Do your fabrics shrink after washing?
Since most of our textiles are pure natural fibres, minimal shrinkage (3–5%) may occur during the first wash. We recommend pre-soaking in cold water and air drying to maintain shape.
6. What is the right way to wash handloom fabrics?
- Handwash separately in cold water with mild detergent.
- Avoid soaking for long durations.
- Do not bleach or tumble dry.
- Iron on the reverse side using low to medium heat.
For silk and naturally dyed fabrics, dry cleaning is best.
7. Do colors fade or bleed in handloom fabrics?
Natural and vegetable dyes may release excess color during the first wash — this is normal. Always wash separately. Over time, natural dyes age beautifully, giving the fabric a rich, antique finish.
8. Can I order fabric by the meter?
Yes! You can order by the meter from our Fabrics
section. Simply choose the desired length before checkout. We offer customization support for bulk fabric requirements as well.
9. What is Pochampally Ikat fabric known for?
Pochampally Ikat is famous for its tie-and-dye weaving technique, where threads are dyed before weaving to create intricate geometric or abstract patterns. It’s known for its precision, durability, and artistic brilliance.
10. What is the difference between Kalamkari Cotton and Kalamkari Silk?
- Kalamkari Cotton: Lightweight, breathable, and perfect for daily wear.
- Kalamkari Silk: Has a luxurious sheen, ideal for festive or formal use.
Both are hand-printed or hand-painted using natural dyes and traditional motifs.
11. How do I check if a fabric is pure silk?
Pure silk has a natural shine and soft, flowing drape. When rubbed gently, it produces a faint warmth. Synthetic silk feels colder and smoother. We source directly from silk clusters to ensure authenticity.
12. Are your fabrics sustainable and eco-friendly?
Yes. We follow eco-conscious sourcing — using natural fibres, vegetable dyes, and minimal chemical treatments. By purchasing from us, you support slow fashion and artisan sustainability.
13. Can I use these fabrics for home décor projects?
Absolutely! Our fabrics are perfect for making cushion covers, table runners, curtains, and upholstery. Cotton and Ikat fabrics work beautifully for décor due to their strength and earthy charm.
14. Do you offer matching fabrics for sarees or dupattas?
Yes, we often provide coordinated fabrics to pair with sarees, dupattas, or dress materials. You can explore the ‘Matching Fabric’ section or contact our team on WhatsApp for assistance.
15. Why do some fabrics have small knots or uneven lines?
These are natural features of handloom weaving — not defects. Each knot or line tells the story of a human hand at work, adding authenticity and warmth that machine-made fabrics simply can’t replicate.
